Clippers to have hands full with Thunder’s Kevin Durant
When the Clippers face the Thunder on Wednesday night at Staples Center, they will face the unenviable task of trying to slow down Oklahoma City all-star and likely NBA MVP Kevin Durant.
Durant leads the NBA in scoring, averaging 32 points per game, and is on pace to win his fourth league scoring title.
And he’s had his way against the Clippers in the past: He’s averaged 29 points per game in 24 career meetings, 34.2 points in their last six meetings.
Durant had 42 points against the Clippers in a 125-117 Thunder loss on Feb. 23 in Oklahoma City.
“I think he is the single most difficult guy to defend,” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said. “And even when you defend him well, in most cases you really didn’t. He just missed the shot.”
Durant had scored at least 25 points in 41 consecutive games, moving past Michael Jordan for third place for the longest single-season streak.
But that streak stopped Tuesday night in Sacramento, when he scored 23 points.
Durant sat out the fourth quarter of that game because the Thunder had such a big lead.
