A look at five NFL matchups -- and themes -- worth checking out Sunday:

ARE THEY REAL? The undefeated Kansas City Chiefs get their biggest test yet when they play at Denver on Sunday night. Peyton Manning is nursing sore ankles, but his throwing arm is just fine.

DIGGING FOR GOLD: Can San Francisco rediscover its offensive prowess after a disastrous showing at home against Carolina? The 49ers play at New Orleans and will look for answers against a suddenly efficient Saints defense.

MOTORING CITY: Detroit is alone atop the NFC North and is the only team in the division that has kept its starting quarterback healthy. The Lions look to keep it rolling at Pittsburgh, where the Steelers aim to get back on track.

WELCOME BACK: Gary Kubiak is back to coaching the Houston Texans after his scary mini-stroke. Now, he has to deal with the frightening performance of his team, which has lost seven in a row heading into Sunday’s game against Oakland.

HOME IS WHERE HARD IS: The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t won at home since Sept. 30, 2012, against the Giants — a 10-game losing streak at Lincoln Financial Field. They play host to Washington with a chance to grab sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
