Yankees tell Reggie Jackson to stay away after Rodriguez comments

Mr. October is Mr. Unwelcome at Yankee Stadium, at least for a while. Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, a special advisor for the New York Yankees, the team with which he reached his height of popularity as a player, has been asked by the team to stay away because of the comments he made about Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez last week.

“The Yankees think that the timing is not right for me to be around the team right now,” Jackson told USA Today. “When the Yankees feel that the timing is proper, I’ll return.”

The Yankees are upset with Jackson over his comments in last week’s issue of Sports Illustrated.

Jackson said that players who used performance-enhancing drugs, including Rodriguez, should be treated differently by the Hall of Fame.

“Al’s a very good friend. But I think there are real questions about his numbers,” Jackson said in the interview. “As much as I like him, what he admitted about his usage does cloud some of his records,”

Jackson apologized to Rodriguez after the comments were released, but Rodriguez doesn’t want to talk about it.

“We’re going to keep that very private,” Rodriguez said.

Maybe the Angels will let Reggie visit while he’s banned from Yankee Stadium. After all, he’s never said a bad word about Gene Autry.
