The NCAA said that Texas Tech University is under investigation for alleged recruiting violations in the school’s football program from 1982-84.

Texas Tech was notified of the investigation and has until Nov. 3 to respond to the allegations, said Lauro F. Cavazos, school president.

The alleged violations occurred during the tenure of former football coach Jerry Moore, who was fired last fall by Athletic Director T. Jones.

Chris Pryor, a highly recruited running back from San Antonio’s Converse-Judson High School, told a Lubbock newspaper last October that Danny Allison, a former Red Raider assistant coach, and Charles Whisenhunt, a booster, provided money, the use of rental cars, hotel rooms, food and other inducements while he and teammate Chip Lambert were being recruited by Allison in early 1984. Pryor also said that Allison promised him a pair of cowboy boots and a trip to Las Vegas.
