Defending national champion Tulsa held first place at 294 after the opening round of the NCAA Division I women’s golf championships at Stanford.
Tulsa, which was seeded fourth, was six strokes ahead of second-place Florida. Arizona, Minnesota and San Jose State rounded out the top five.
San Jose’s Pat Hurst, ranked third in the country, had a three-under-par 70. Cathy Mockett of Tulsa finished second at 71.
