San Diego Sports : Sheffield, Pagel Win Track Events

Former San Diego State Olympians LaTanya Sheffield and Ramona Pagel won their events Sunday in an international track and field meet in Villeneuve D’Asq, France.

Sheffield won the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 56.41 seconds. Pagel won the women’s shotput with a toss of 60-feet 10 3/4 inches, more than eight feet farther than France’s Martine Jean Michel (52-5 1/4).

BOWLING

Jess Stayrook of San Diego rolled a perfect 300 in his first game and is in second place after the first round of the Professional Bowlers Assn. $150,000 Seattle Open. Stayrook, with a total of 1,369, trails defending PBA player of the year Brian Vossi of Seattle (1,411).
