Texas slips by LSU in overtime
A.J. Abrams made two three-point shots in overtime to lead Texas over No. 9-ranked Louisiana State, 76-75, Sunday at Houston, in a rematch of last season’s NCAA regional final that also went to overtime.
Abrams’ shot with 1 minute 3 seconds left was the last field goal by either team. Damion James of Texas (6-2) missed two free throws with 17 seconds left in overtime and his team leading by one point, giving the Tigers (5-2) a chance for the victory.
After a Louisiana State timeout, Garrett Temple’s three-point shot from the top of the key bounced off the front of the rim. Temple had made a three-pointer with 21 seconds left to make it 68-68, the final tie of regulation and the 13th of the game. A major piece of the Tigers’ struggles stemmed from Texas’ 2-3 zone; the Tigers shot only 35.5% from the field.
Boston College 73, No. 23 Maryland 62 -- With Sean Williams blocking seven shots and Jared Dudley scoring 20 points, the host Eagles (6-2) beat the Terrapins (9-2) in the teams’ Atlantic Coast Conference opener.
