Baseball: Chaminade stays in Mission League title contention

Share

There were questions about Chaminade’s pitching depth before the season, but now the Eagles are two wins away from a Mission League baseball championship and appear to have found an ace in Anthony Acosta, the team’s former closer.

Acosta threw five shutout innings on Monday in Chaminade’s 7-0 victory over Crespi. The Eagles are 17-8 and 12-4. Nick Kahle hit a three-run home run. Blake Rutherford hit a two-run home run. Chaminade closes with games at Crespi on Wednesday and at home on Thursday. The Eagles are tied for first place with Loyola.

Loyola 2, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: Alonzo Billips hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 10th for the Cubs. Daniel Caruso of Loyola and Jamie Robertson of Notre Dame each pitched seven shutout innings. Blake Beers pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings of relief for Loyola to get the win.
