When it comes to top performances by members of the class of 2018, freshman second baseman Matt McLain of Irvine Beckman ranks near the top after his first high school season of baseball.

He was named the Pacific Coast League MVP after batting .389 and leading Beckman in hits with 28 and sacrifices as the No. 2 hitter in the lineup.

"From the day he got here, he's done a great job," Coach Kevin Lavalle said.
