Boys’ basketball: Fairfax wins Maranatha tournament championship

The best basketball team this summer so far has been Fairfax High, which won the Maranatha tournament championship on Saturday night with a 73-38 win over Oak Park in the final.

Fairfax has been receiving outstanding play at the guard position, led by point guard Lindsey Drew and junior Donald Gipson. A healthy Loren Currie scored 27 points on Saturday. The Lions are unbeaten in summer action.

In the Silver Division final, Price defeated Alemany, 64-61. Roderick Williams of Price had 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks and was named the division MVP. Daron Henson of Alemany had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Michael Ibarra scored 40 points in St. Francis’ 85-59 win over Damien in the fifth-place Gold Division game. Chino Hills defeated Brentwood, 48-32. Lonzo Ball scored 24 points.

Long Beach Poly, led by point guard K.J. Feagin, won the championshp of the DeMar DeRozan tournament at Compton.

In the War on the Floor final on Sunday, it will be Sherman Oaks Notre Dame taking on Dorsey at 6 p.m. at Calabasas.

On Monday, the Fairfax tournament begins. The schedule: Chaminade will play Lawndale at 3 p.m., Chino Hills will face Harvard-Westlake at 7:30 p.m., Loyola will play Orange Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. and Sierra Canyon will take on Compton at 6 p.m.

In the other bracket on Tuesday, Alemany will play Santa Monica at 3 p.m., Mater Dei will face Brentwood at 7:30 p.m., Corona Centennial will take on Crespi at 4:30 p.m. and Fairfax will face La Canada at 6 p.m.
