Football: It has been the year of the receiver

Share

It was supposed to be the year of the receiver, and through 10 weeks, the receivers have been living up to expectations and more.

From Michael Pittman of Oaks Christian to Javon McKinley of Corona Centennial to Tyler Vaughns of Bishop Amat, it has been the receivers creating the buzz and producing many “wow” from fans in the bleachers.

Pittman, a senior committed to USC but also continuing to be wooed by UCLA, keeps upping his game seemingly every week. Going into the Pac-5 playoffs, he has 61 receptions for 1,508 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Another receiver producing off-the-chart statistics is J.P. Shohfi of San Marino with 68 receptions for 1,334 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Junior Jacob Huff of San Juan Hills has caught 74 passes and 10 touchdowns. Kevin Howell of Thousand Oaks has 15 touchdown catches.

Junior Guillermo Cordova of Los Angeles Franklin has made 98 catches.

And don’t forget the seasons being enjoyed by senior Justin Rogers of Los Angeles and sophomore Jalen Hall of Hawkins.

There’s still a potential six games remaining for teams when you include section playoffs and regional and state bowl games.
