Dishwashing accident costs Diamondbacks’ Ian Kennedy

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Ian Kennedy will miss his next start after cutting his right index finger while washing dishes last week.

Kennedy was scheduled to start one of the games Monday in a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers but will now be replaced by left-hander Tyler Skaggs, who will be recalled from triple-A Reno.

Arizona Manager Kirk Gibson said Kennedy cut his finger a couple of days ago and threw a bullpen session on Saturday with a bandage on it. He said the Diamondbacks considered several options that might allow Kennedy to pitch on Monday, including glue, but the team decided not to interfere with the healing process.

Bryce Harper is still feeling the effects of his collision with the Dodger Stadium wall, enough for Manager Davey Johnson to consider resting the Washington Nationals outfielder for a few games. Harper aggravated his sore left knee three times Sunday in a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, twice with head-first slides in the first inning. Harper was hurt May 13 against the Dodgers. ... The New York Yankees added left-handed reliever David Huff to the roster and designated outfielder Ben Francisco for assignment. Huff was claimed on waivers from Cleveland on Saturday.
