Cody Buckel, Simi Valley Royal, pitcher, Sr.: Singing and pitching sensation must decide which stage to perform on next. The right-hander was drafted in the second round by the Texas Rangers after signing with Pepperdine. He is expected to turn professional. He finished the season 12-1 with an earned-run average of 0.61 while leading the Highlanders to a Division 1 semifinal.

Adam Plutko, Glendora, pitcher, Sr.: UCLA-bound standout capped a stellar season with a complete-game, five-hit victory over Yucaipa in the Division 2 championship. The right-hander finished 10-1 with a 1.36 ERA, striking out 97 and walking only 18 in 67 innings. He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the sixth round.

Cory Hahn, Santa Ana Mater Dei, utility, Sr.: What more could you ask for? Hahn pitched in four of the Monarchs’ five playoff games, played stellar defense in center field and combined with Ty Moore for a perfect game in a 2-0 Division 1 championship victory over Dana Hills. Arizona State signee hit 10 homers and went 14-1 with 0.89 ERA.

Rio Ruiz, La Puente Bishop Amat, shortstop, Soph.: Multi-sport star who also excelled at receiver for football team was quite a catch for the Lancers, hitting .528 with four homers and 34 RBIs. Three of his homers came during the National Classic as he helped Bishop Amat win three of four games. He has committed to USC.

Austin Davidson, Oxnard, shortstop, Jr.: Displayed a penchant for coming through when the Yellow Jackets needed him most, crushing a two-run homer to propel them to a victory over Long Beach Millikan in the first round of the playoffs. He finished the season hitting .454 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs, hitting safely in 23 of 27 games.

Scotty Burcham, Palm Desert, shortstop, Jr.: Slick-fielding standout played flawless defense and hit .447 in leading the Aztecs to their first Southern Section title. He also had 17 doubles and drove in 29 runs.

Rouric Bridgewater, Diamond Ranch, infielder, Jr.: The baseball adage that you fail more than you succeed doesn’t apply to Bridgewater, who batted .587 with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs. After the third baseman-outfielder homered in the first inning of a playoff victory over Pico Rivera El Rancho, he was intentionally walked in his subsequent four at-bats.

Aaron Jones, San Clemente, catcher, Sr.: Defensive stalwart tied a school season record with nine home runs and broke another season record with 35 RBIs. Oregon signee hit .467 and was selected co-most valuable player of the South Coast League. He was also drafted in the 37th round by the Boston Red Sox.

Austin Wilson, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, outfielder, Sr.: Stanford-bound star hit .485 with five homers and 23 RBIs and was 27 for 27 on stolen base attempts. He was drafted in the 12th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Brando Tessar, West Hills Chaminade, outfielder, Sr.: A threat at the plate and on the mound, the Oregon-bound standout hit .402 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs. The Mission League player of the year also went 9-2 with a 1.45 ERA and four shutouts, prompting the Toronto Blue Jays to draft him in the 25th round.

Michael Lorenzen, Fullerton, outfielder, Sr.: Speedy center fielder stole home against La Habra and twice scored from second base on sacrifice bunts in the same game against Fullerton Troy. Cal State Fullerton signee batted .455 with eight homers and 35 RBIs. He was drafted in the seventh round by the Tampa Bay Rays.
