Lost Lobos playing the same tune

Share

It was showdown day and when it was all over New Mexico (0-6) and Western Kentucky (0-5) proved they had what it didn’t take.

The Lost Lobos and wacky WKU kept their winless streaks intact with clutch defeats to New Mexico State (1-4) and Florida International (1-4).

The latter two were suspended from the Bottom Ten for at least one week for notching victories.

Also suspended was Brigham Young (2-4), which defeated San Diego State and thus forfeited a chance to be a Crummy Game of the Weak honoree against Texas Christian (6-0) this week.

The ratings could be shaken up again this weekend. No. 3 Eastern Michigan (0-6) will be hard-pressed to lose to No. 16 Ball State (2-4), which, as its name indicates, is the only school in the nation that accepts only physical education majors.

*Errant asterisk, please ignore.

Crummy game of the weak: Nevada Las Vegas (1-5) at Colorado State (1-5).

Rout of the weak: Arizona (4-1) at Washington State (1-5).

Say again: The Sagarin computer rankings have Arizona State as No. 20 in the nation. ASU is 3-3. (Leave the jokes to the Bottom Ten, please.)

Old school: A student cited for 21 counts of procuring alcohol for underage persons for a party before Wisconsin’s game against San Jose State told the Milwaukee Sentinel that the bash started out to be for “a bunch of old guys we sell our parking to. It’s all like 40- or 50-year-olds with their families.”
