CC Sabathia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of right knee inflammation that could end his season.

New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi said Monday there is no timetable for the big left-hander’s return, and he kept open the possibility that the 35-year-old Sabathia might not pitch again this year.

Sabathia (4-9 with a 5.27 earned-run average) came out of his start Sunday after just 2 2-3 innings. The plan is to have Sabathia stay behind when the team goes on its upcoming six-game road trip. The rest of the rehabilitation will depend on how he responds to rest and treatment.
