Pepperdine falls to St. Mary’s, 81-66, in semifinal game of WCC men’s tournament

Joe Rahon scored 18 points, Dane Pineau had 16 points and nine rebounds, and top-seeded Saint Mary’s defeated fourth-seeded Pepperdine, 81-66, Monday night in a semifinal game of the West Coast Conference men’s tournament in Las Vegas.

The Gaels (27-4) will face the winner of the semifinal game between second-seeded Gonzaga and third-seeded Brigham Young in the final Tuesday night.

The Waves (18-13) used a 16-4 run to trim the deficit to 10 points with 5 minutes 28 seconds left, but Emmett Naar scored seven points during an 11-2 run by the Gaels to seal it. Naar finished with 14 points and nine assists.

Lamond Murray Jr. had 20 points for Pepperdine, which beat St. Mary’s in their two regular-season matchups.

Women

San Francisco 67, St. Mary’s 65: Taylor Proctor scored 19 points to lead the Dons (20-11) into the championship game Tuesday at 1 p.m. Lauren Nicholson had 22 points for the Gaels (24-7).

Brigham Young 87, Santa Clara 67: Lexi Rydalch scored 25 points to lead the Cougars (26-5) into the title game. Lori Parkinson had 24 points for the Broncos (23-8).
