Aaron Hernandez photo removed from Pro Football Hall of Fame display

The Pro Football Hall of Fame distanced itself from former New England tight end Aaron Hernandez by removing a photo of the murder suspect from a display last week.

“In the spirit of good taste we thought we’d take it down,” vice president of communication and exhibits Joe Horrigan told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

According to the Plain Dealer, the Canton, Ohio, institution had received several complaints from visitors regarding the award-winning shot of Hernandez high-stepping into the end zone in front of a crumpled Sam Shields of the Green Bay Packers during the 2010 season.

Hernandez is being held without bail on first-degree murder charges.

The photo, taken by Mary Schwalm of the Eagle-Tribune of North Andover, Mass., won the Hall of Fame’s Dave Boss Award of Excellence and was declared photograph of the year in 2010.

The picture is titled “Thrill and Agony.”

One can’t help but feel bad for Schwalm, who was clearly the one being honored by having the photo on display, not Hernandez. But the feelings of the Hall and those who complained are understandable as well.
