Joe Riggs pulled from UFC card after accidentally shooting himself
UFC welterweight fighter Joe Riggs, scheduled to face Paulo Thiago in Brazil on Sept. 13, was pulled from the card on Tuesday after he accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun in Arizona.
“We were made aware that newly-signed UFC competitor Joe Riggs was involved in an unfortunate accident last night,” UFC said in a news release. “While cleaning his permitted firearm, the gun discharged, injuring his hand and upper thigh. Riggs was transported to a nearby hospital in Arizona where he is being treated by physicians. We wish Joe a speedy recovery.”
A replacement for Riggs will be sought.
