The most hilarious developing/disturbing story of the day so far is the mystery of Alex Collins’ letter of intent. ESPN reported that Collins’ mother had “allegedly” stolen his LOI because she did not want him to attend the University of Arkansas.

Wonder if she has ever been to Fayetteville.

“There’s an APB out there for mom,” ESPN analyst Gene Chizik, the former Auburn coach, said.

ESPN’s Lou Holtz said the mom should not be able to tell her son where to go.

That is, if mom actually took off with the LOI.

“That’s what we’re hearing,” one ESPN recruiting studio host said he heard.

Collins, from South Plantation, Fla., is rated the No. 1 running back by 247Sports.com and had shocked the recruiting world Monday night when he announced he would shun Miami, Florida State and Florida and sign with Arkansas.

“It’s just a stressful time for him right now,” high school teammate John Franklin told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “Some things happened that I’d rather not speak about because it’s his business. I don’t want to put it out there.”

He didn’t put his business out there, but ESPN sure did. This is just another example of why maybe the tough, personal decisions made by young players should not be exploited for entertainment purposes.

Then again, the “E” in ESPN stands for entertainment.
