UCLA vs. UAB: How they match up in the NCAA tournament

NCAA tournament: How UCLA and UAB match up

WHO: No. 11 UCLA (21-13) vs. No. 14 Alabama Birmingham (20-15).

WHAT: NCAA South regional third-round game, Saturday, 9 a.m. PDT.

WHERE: KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, Ky. TV: 2; Radio: 570, 1150.

UPDATE: The Bruins beat the Blazers in November in the seventh-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. Alabama Birmingham never threatened much, and UCLA won by 12. The Blazers finished fourth in Conference USA in the regular season but made a championship run in the conference tournament, which was held in Birmingham. The Blazers scored the first major upset of the NCAA tournament Thursday when they shocked third-seeded Iowa State, which had won the Big 12 tournament. The game was decided on the glass, where UAB won the rebounding battle by a margin of 17 and hauled in 18 offensive rebounds. Tyler Madison had nine offensive rebounds (and 11 total) in just 14 minutes. UCLA reached this point after clawing back from a late deficit and using a goaltending call in the final seconds to beat sixth-seeded SMU. A win would send UCLA to its second consecutive regional semifinal.
