COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Sweep Softball Doubleheader

Traci Fischer had a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning to give Cal State Fullerton a 1-0 victory over New Mexico State in the second game of a Big West Conference softball doubleheader at Las Cruces, N.M.

Fullerton won the first game, 7-4.

Teresa Stippey had a home run in the sixth inning of the second game to tie it, 1-1, for Fullerton. Jennifer Mortensen (10-9) earned the victories in both games for the Titans (14-19, 5-5 in conference).

In nonconference softball:

Humboldt State 6-9, Chapman 0-1--Humboldt State (13-2), ranked second in NCAA Division II, swept the doubleheader at Hart Park. In the first game, Katie Shankle-Chriss allowed nine hits and Susan Caton was two for three for the Panthers (22-11).

In the second game, Rene Hernandez had two hits, including a double, and scored Chapman’s only run.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Brown 7, UC Irvine 2--Senior Jennifer Wall won, 6-4, 6-3, for host UC Irvine (7-11). It was her fourth consecutive victory and improved her season record to 10-7.
