Somewhat surprisingly, given the unfavorable practice circumstances this last week, Sadique Hayward appeared to be sharp for Los Angeles Dorsey during warmups for Friday night’s intersectional game against Mission Hills Alemany at Rancho Cienega Park in Los Angeles.

The senior and the Dons (1-2) had few opportunities to prepare for the Warriors (3-0) the last couple of days after the Los Angeles City Section placed restrictions on workouts because of high temperatures. Rules are rules, of course, especially when multiple players’ well-being is at stake.

“We’re doing the best we can under the guidelines,” Dorsey Coach Paul Knox said. “The players are ready, they know the game plan and understand what’s expected from them. Now, it’s a matter of making things happen out there. It is what it is at this point. It’s time to play football.”

Dorsey was limited to some indoor activities Monday and didn’t practice Tuesday because it was a professional development day. The workout Wednesday was canceled because of the conditions. Thursday was the first real practice and the Dons didn’t go full speed with a game looming.

Considering the opponent, one of many difficult foes from the Southern Section on the schedule during nonleague play, the timing could not have been worse for Dorsey. That said, it will be interesting to see whether the potential lack of conditioning will have adverse effects during tonight’s action.
