1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing | $4,620,000( Pawel Litwinski / Gooding & Co. / May 3, 2012 )
This 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing sold at a Gooding & Co. auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., for just over $4.6 million in January. It is a metallic silver gray coupe with a six-cylinder inline engine that produces 240 horsepower, about the same as a modern day BMW 328. Road and Track at the time called this coveted Gullwing "the ultimate in an all-around sports car." It spent most of its life in Southern California and was restored in 2011. Interestingly, it has blue plaid seats.
