Former home to Tony Curtis, Sonny and Cher on sale for $150 million
Owlwood, the compound that was once the home of actor Tony Curtis and later ‘60s and ‘70s singing duo Sonny and Cher, is back up for sale on L.A.’s Westside. The asking price for the spread remains $150 million.
Although the 10-acre property had been in the process of being sold, the deal never closed, said Josh Flagg of Rodeo Realty. “Owlwood was in escrow for substantially more than $74 million.”
Flagg, who now has the pocket-listing with Ann Dashiell of the same firm, declined to state the exact purchase price or say who the potential buyer was. The Tuscan-style home is being shown privately and is not being marketed through the Multiple Listing Service.
The more than 12,000-square-foot main house, built in 1936, had eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms when last listed on the MLS.
The compound was amassed by combining three adjacent properties. There is a tennis court, and the existing pool house and swimming pool once belonged to swimmer and actress Esther Williams.
The asking price of $150 million matches that of Candy Spelling’s Manor, which sold to British heiress Petra Ecclestone in 2011 for $85 million. That 56,500-square-foot mansion, with 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms, sits on a 4.7-acre site.
Eclipsing that price was Beverly House, which took the top spot among L.A. mega-mansion asking prices in 2007 at $165 million.
The six-acre compound in Beverly Hills is today listed at $135 million, or for lease at $600,000 a month, with Jeff Hyland at Hilton & Hyland/Christie’s International Real Estate. The onetime residence of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst and actress Marion Davies was a honeymoon spot for a future first lady and president -- Jacqueline and John F. Kennedy.
