Celebrity architect unveils colorful Malibu creation
Architect to the stars Richard Landry has put his traffic-stopping beach house in Malibu on the market at $11.995 million.
The three-story home was compartmentalized and the interior spaces dark when he bought the property five years ago for $3.95 million. Landry reworked the house to create open-plan spaces and bring in natural light. The driveway is adorned with artistic geometric shapes. A floating glass staircase connects the levels. An eye-catching fixture sits above the dining table.
But it’s the mood lighting that really makes the place stand out — especially at night. The 4,298 square feet of clean-lined interiors have white stone and plaster wall finishes that show off the colored-lighting feature. The ambience can be changed with shades of red, blue and purple at the touch of a button.
The living room and kitchen on the main floor take in ocean views. The second-floor master suite has a glass wall that floods the center of the house with light. Automated draperies provide privacy for the bedroom.
A third-floor media room and bar open to a roof terrace to create a large entertainment space. The sliding doors are concealed in a pocket in the wall.
There is a total of four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and one powder room.
The terrace has fire pit and a barbecue center.
Landry has designed homes for such musicians as Michael Bolton, Rod Stewart and Kenny G. NFL player Tom Brady and actor Mark Wahlberg are among his other celebrity clients.

‘Shark’ turns a tidy profit
Canadian entrepreneur and investor Robert Herjavec, who appears on the reality series “Shark Tank,” saw a nice return on investment from a recent sale in West Hollywood. The television personality sold a 1,672-square-foot unit at the Sierra Towers building for $4.15 million, or $1 million more than what he paid for it last year.

Found on the 17th floor, the southeast-facing corner unit has walls of floor-to-ceiling glass that take in city to ocean views.
An open-plan living/dining room, an updated kitchen with a breakfast bar, two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms make up the floor plan. The master suite has a walk-in closet and a balcony; the other bedroom is outfitted as another walk-in closet/dressing room.
Pocket doors off the main area open to a terrace patio.
Herjavec, 53, has been a regular on the Emmy-winning show “Shark Tank” since 2009. He is the author of two bestselling books, “Driven” and “The Will to Win.”
He is engaged to “Dancing With the Stars” personality Kym Johnson.

A marvelous transformation
Actor Don Cheadle and his partner, actress-designer Bridgid Coulter, have put their reimagined home in Venice up for sale at $2.45 million.
Originally a cozy bungalow of just 800 square feet, the home was completely transformed by Coulter, owner of the Santa Monica-based Bridgid Coulter Design, who vaulted the interiors while adding a second level and a rooftop deck.
Tucked within a walled garden, the two-story draws the eye with industrial notes, rust-colored panels and raw poured concrete. Drought-tolerant plants and flowering desert museum palo verde trees fill the courtyard entry.
Inside, the 2,400 square feet of living space is awash in a soft nautical vibe. Cooling hues, light wide-plank French oak floors and a rustic staircase with metal rails and oak balusters are among details of note.
Smokestack-style pendant lights top an open dining area, and a chef’s kitchen has a La Cornue range, a tiled backsplash and matching custom black and stainless-steel hood. A small outdoor living room sits off the main floor.
Three bedrooms and three bathrooms include a master suite with a sitting area and a walk-in closet. In the master bath, iron pipe faucets and a custom soaking tub with steel rivets further the industrial-chic theme.
A second staircase leads up to the rooftop deck and outdoor living room. Views take in treetops and the surrounding area.
The house last changed hands two years ago for $894,000, records show. Rhonda Payne of Rodeo Realty is the listing agent.
Cheadle, 51, will reprise his role as Iron Patriot in the upcoming Marvel film “Captain America: Civil War.” Among his other film credits is “Swordfish” (2001), “Flight” (2012) and the “Ocean’s” film franchise.
He has starred in the Showtime series “House of Lies” since 2012.
Coulter, 47, has appeared alongside Cheadle in episodes of “House of Lies.” Her other TV credits include “Family Matters,” “Class of ‘96” and “Shameless.”
His net is a loss
Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf has found himself on the losing end of a recent home sale, albeit by a small margin.
The three-time all-star last week sold his home in Tustin for $3.75 million — $10,000 less than what he paid for it six years ago. Despite the slight hit, the transaction represents the priciest single-family home sale in the city since 2014, property records show.
Set on a cul-de-sac in Tustin Ranch Estates, the palm-topped site centers on a Spanish-style home built in 2002. A sports court, a putting green and swimming pool and spa fill the roughly 1-acre grounds.
Clad in stone and dark wood finishes, the 6,900 square feet of interiors include a formal living room, a dining area, a home theater, a game room and a wine cellar. A chef’s kitchen sports two islands and a floating stainless steel range.
A total of five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms includes a master suite with custom cabinetry, a fireplace and a sitting area. Inside and out, there are four fireplaces in all.
Outdoors, a pair of covered patios provide shade for an outdoor kitchen and wet bar. An interior courtyard sits off of the front entrance.
Views take in the surrounding canyon and mountain areas.

Getzlaf, now in his 11th NHL season, has spent his entire career with the Ducks. The 30-year-old center won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007 and has twice won Olympic gold medals with the Canadian national team (2010 and 2014).
He owns other property in Orange County.
Filmmaker’s last home
The Hollywood Hills home of late horror filmmaker Wes Craven proved to be one in-demand property. Listed for sale in April by his widow, producer and production manager Iya Labunka, the house went pending in about a week and sold for $3.525 million — $230,000 above the asking price.
Craven and Labunka weren’t the only Hollywood forces to call the single-story midcentury-modern their home. Actor Steve McQueen also once owned the 3,594-square-foot flat-roofed house.
The gated post-and-beam home has a Zen-inspired fountain and lush vegetation at the entry. Inside, an open-plan layout and walls of glass provide panoramic views of the cityscape and canyons.
Ceiling beams emphasize the home’s strong horizontal lines. The updated kitchen features stainless-steel appliances and a center island. The master suite contains a fireplace and a sitting area, for a total of three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The guest suite has a separate entrance. There are patios off the two offices.
The less than half an acre of grounds include gardens with fountains, two koi ponds and a saltwater swimming pool with a spa.
Craven, who died at 76, made such memorable films as “Nightmare on Elm Street” and the “Scream” series.
He bought the property in 1992 for $1.2 million.
McQueen, who died in 1980 at 50, is remembered for his work in movies including the 1960 western “The Magnificent Seven,” the 1963 World War II epic “The Great Escape” and the 1968 heist film “The Thomas Crown Affair.”
