The deal? New home, same town
Selma Blair, who costars with Christian Slater in the upcoming political thriller “The Deal,” has sold a home in West Hollywood for about $1.2 million and purchased another one in the same neighborhood for slightly more than $1.3 million.
The home she bought is on several adjoining lots. The house was built in 1922 and has four bedrooms in nearly 3,000 square feet, according to public records.
The house she sold has two bedrooms in about 1,500 square feet, and it was built in 1930. Blair had owned it since March 2001, when she bought it for $645,000.
Blair sold the house in December, right after she bought her new home.
The actress married Ahmet Zappa, musician son of the late rocker Frank Zappa, early last year at the Coldwater Canyon home of writer-actress Carrie Fisher.
Blair, 32, was cast opposite Topher Grace and Scarlett Johansson in the comedy “In Good Company,” and she starred with Tracey Ullman and Johnny Knoxville in the film “A Dirty Shame.” She starred as Liz Sherman in “Hellboy,” also released last year.
Earlier, she co-starred in such movies as “A Guy Thing” (2003) and “The Sweetest Thing” (2002), with Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate. She also had a supporting role in “Legally Blonde” (2001).
Hancock Park out one ‘grim reaper’
Jasmine Guy, who played one of the grim reapers in Showtime’s “Dead Like Me,” has sold her Hancock Park home for about $1.8 million.
The house, which Guy had owned since 2000, is Mediterranean in style and has five bedrooms and four bathrooms in nearly 3,800 square feet. The home, built in 1924, also has a sweeping staircase, vintage light fixtures, a butler’s pantry, a finished basement, a breakfast room, a pool and a spa.
Guy, 40, is perhaps best known for playing the glamorous Whitley Gilbert on the NBC sitcom “A Different World,” a spinoff of “The Cosby Show.” Guy was a member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and met her husband, businessman Terrence Duckette, when touring in 1997 as the murderess vamp Velma Kelly in the musical “Chicago.”
Last year, Guy wrote the book “Afeni Shakur: Evolution of a Revolutionary,” a record of conversations with her friend, the mother of slain rapper-actor Tupac Shakur.
In December, the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People honored the actress at “An Evening With Jasmine Guy” at the MGM Tower Theater in Century City. She founded the dance program at A Place Called Home, a safe house in South-Central Los Angeles.
“Dead Like Me” was canceled in December after two seasons. Guy sold her Hancock Park home just before the holidays.
She’s got Pickfair and Palisades too
Pia Zadora, a longtime owner of the legendary Beverly Hills property called Pickfair, has purchased the Pacific Palisades home of producer Arnold Rifkin for close to its $8.95-million asking price. Pickfair, once the home of film stars Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, was mostly razed and rebuilt by Zadora and her then-husband, Meshulam Riklis. It is on the market at $27 million.
The ocean-view Palisades home has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms in about 14,000 square feet. The Country English-style house also has a lagoon pool and views of the Riviera Country Club’s golf course. On the lower level of one of the two guesthouses is a screening room with its own entrance, a kitchenette and a bathroom. There is seating for a dozen or more viewers.
Rifkin, a partner of actor Bruce Willis in the motion picture and video production company Cheyenne Enterprises, bought another Palisades home for nearly its list price of $6 million. That house has five bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms in slightly more than 5,800 square feet. The home also has a pool house and an office. “Hostage,” a Cheyenne film starring Willis, is due out in March.
Drew Mandile and Brooke Knapp of Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills, had the listing on the house Zadora purchased and represented Rifkin in buying. Steven Durbin of Prudential John Aaroe and Mary Lu Tuthill of Coldwell Banker, Brentwood, had the listing on the house Rifkin purchased.
Find you can’t get enough of Encino?
The Encino home of the late singer-songwriter Barry White has been sold for close to $3 million. White died at age 58 in July 2003. He left the house, in the gated community of Royal Oaks Colony, to his fiancee, Katherine Denton. She sold it to developer Ed Uzan and his wife, Allison.
The one-story Mediterranean has four bedrooms and five bathrooms in about 4,700 square feet. It sits on a 36,000-square-foot lot. The home, built in the late ‘80s, also has three fireplaces, arched doors, high ceilings and a pool.
White, who had owned the home for five years, was a pop icon whose name was synonymous with seduction and sensuality. He had such hits as “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” in 1974. During the ‘90s, his music was used extensively on David E. Kelley’s popular TV series “Ally McBeal.”
Francine Chalme Meyberg and Elaine Selko of Coldwell Banker, Sherman Oaks, had the listing, and Lynne Weiss of the same office represented the buyers.
Their big news: a change of scenery
Marta Waller, KTLA News anchor-reporter, and her husband, ABC News freelance producer Roger Scott, have put their La Canada Flintridge home on the market at just under $1.7 million. Now that their two daughters are grown, the couple plan to move to smaller quarters in Pasadena.
Their La Canada Flintridge home has five bedrooms and three bathrooms in 3,500 square feet. The house, built in 1951, has a remodeled kitchen, a family room and a breakfast room. There are fireplaces in the living room, dining room and den. There are views of the pool and the city to the ocean.
