Design for a Dollar: The Pratt student booth at the 2009 ICFF

In the "Design for a Dollar" exhibition at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, industrial design students from the Pratt Institute in New York morphed egg cartons and old sweaters into lamps, turned dated magazines into flower-shaped stools, and melted bottle caps into bowls. Show visitors pressed the booth, sometimes four-deep, wanting to know: "How'd you do that?"

Orange votive candles by David Steinvurzel are created with soy-based wax and discarded orange peels.
