Cairo, Egypt

Egyptian opposition activists clash with police during a demonstration against the nation's Emergency Law, in place since 1981. The emergency law allows detention without charge for long periods and searches without warrants and is strongly criticized by Egypt's opposition as well as human rights groups. Despite announcements by Egypt's government to lift the emergency law, it is still in place.
