From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Losing just 11 pounds can decrease the risk of the most aggressive form of prostate cancer by about 40% in overweight men, researchers reported this week in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

Previous studies had shown obese men were more likely to develop the aggressive form, but this is the first study to show weight loss can reduce risk.

Researchers from the American Cancer Society studied nearly 70,000 men over a 10-year period to reach the conclusion.
