Military deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq or who died at a military hospital of their injuries:

Isaac T. Cortes, 26, of Bronx, N.Y.; private, Army. Cortes was one of two soldiers killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Amerli, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Benjamin J. Garrison, 25, of Houston; specialist, Army. Garrison was one of two soldiers killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Amerli, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Jonathon L. Martin, 33, of Bellevue, Ohio; staff sergeant, Army. Martin died Nov. 22 at a U.S. military hospital in Regensburg, Germany, of injuries suffered Nov. 9 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Jisr Naft, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Allen C. Roberts, 21 of Arcola, Ill.; corporal, Marine Corps. Roberts was killed Wednesday in a vehicle accident near Al Asad, Iraq, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to Marine Attack Squadron 214, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz.

John J. Tobiason, 42, of Hayfield, Minn.; sergeant first class, Army Reserve. Tobiason reportedly was killed Wednesday when he stepped outside of a tent in Baghdad and shots were fired. No other details were released on his death, which was under investigation. He was assigned to the 847th Adjutant General Battalion, 89th Regional Readiness Command in Wichita, Kan.
