Share

President Obama raised $29.1 million in the first month of 2012 for his reelection campaign and the Democratic National Committee, kicking off what is expected to be a record-setting fundraising year.

His campaign announced the haul in a tweet Friday morning, saying that 98% of the donations in January were in increments of $250 or less.

In all, Obama has raised nearly $250 million from more 1.3 million donors since launching his reelection bid last April. In the final quarter of 2011, he pulled in an average of $22.67 million a month.

The president raised more than $68 million for his reelection effort and the Democratic Party in the fourth quarter of 2011.

On Friday the president finishes up a three-day trip to the West Coast that includes eight fundraisers. He’s expected to reap at least $8 million, a pool shared by his campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
