Offbeat Traveler: Sand-sculpting contests
To see the masters compete, head to the Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival in Massachusetts. If you're more interested in the fun, check out the Long Beach Sand Sculpture Contest, where you can build sand castles, eat BBQ and listen to live music.

Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival
Billed as the largest sand-sculpting festival on the East Coast, this event attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year. The festival features food vendors, entertainment, a kids' zone and learning center, and a fireworks show.

Revere Beach is the first Public Beach in the United States. In its' day a very desireable vacation spot. Just minutes outside of Boston, Revere is home to Kelly's Roast Beef, creator of the Roast Beef Sandwich also specializing in fresh local seafood. Come to the National Sand Sculpting Festival July 14-17, 2011 then stop by Kelly's for a roast beef sandwich that is "Famous the World Over".
