Egypt will request a 40% increase in military and economic aid from the United States in 1985, the state-controlled newspaper Al Gomhouria reported. Egyptian officials say that if a proposed $1.3-billion U.S. aid boost is approved for Israel, an increase for Egypt will probably also be granted. The Administration of former President Jimmy Carter agreed to keep aid to the two countries roughly equal in the wake of the 1978 Camp David agreements. Currently, the United States gives Egypt $2.2 billion annually and Israel, $2.6 billion.
