Zola Budd said Thursday in London that she will run for England this year and live with friends in southern England.
Budd, a native of South Africa, obtained British citizenship last year so she could run in the Olympics. In the 3,000 meter final, Budd and American favorite Mary Decker got their feet tangled. Decker fell and was unable to finish the race. Budd returned to South Africa and considered running again in that country, which would have made her ineligible for international meets.
She decided against that, however, and won an eight-kilometer road race in Zurich last week. Thursday, she said she would run in the 1,500-meter event at the British national indoor championships Jan. 25-26, and try to win a place on a British team that will meet West Germany Feb. 9.
She also indicated she may run in a 10-kilometer road race in Phoenix, Ariz., March 2.
