Services Director Leaving:Public Services Director Don Duckworth has resigned to become Visalia’s assistant city manager. He is scheduled to leave the city Feb. 1 and start his new job on Feb. 4. In the meantime, city officials will search for a successor to Duckworth, who currently is in charge of the Parks, Recreation, Marine Safety and Maintenance departments and the city golf course. Duckworth has been the city’s public services director since August, 1982, and is credited with several “innovative and cost-saving programs,” said Greg Hulsizer, assistant to City Manager Jim Hendrickson. Duckworth spearheaded such projects as the rebuilding of the city pier and completion of plans for San Grogonio Park, Hulsizer said. Since May, three top city officials have resigned. City Manager George Caravalho left to become city manager in Bakersfield and Fire Chief Ron J. Coleman took the post of Fullerton Fire Department chief.
