Northern Tier of U.S. Pelted by Snow and Freezing Rain

Snow and rain fell Sunday from the eastern Dakotas across portions of Minnesota. Travelers’ advisories because of snow were in effect for east-central Minnesota and the northern half of Wisconsin, with one to three inches of snow expected.

Freezing drizzle causing icy roads prompted travelers’ advisories for western and central upper Michigan and northern lower Michigan through Sunday night. Snow was expected across much of Michigan, with one to three inches possible by this morning.

A mixture of freezing drizzle and light snow was also reported across portions of New York.

Strong northwest winds whipped portions of the northern and central Plains Sunday. Mobridge, S.D., reported wind gusts of 60 m.p.h., and Ainsworth, Neb., had gusts to 58 m.p.h.

Clouds increased over much of the West. Skies were mostly cloudy from the Pacific Coast eastward to the Rockies.

Temperatures were generally seasonable. Early afternoon readings were in the teens and 20s over portions of the Northeast, the Rockies and from North Dakota across upper Michigan. Temperatures rose into the 50s and 60s over much of the Southwest, the southern Plains, the Gulf Coast and the southern Atlantic Coast.
