William J. Schroeder, the world’s second artificial heart recipient, was comfortable and cheerful, delighted that he would be allowed to munch pizza while watching afternoon football on television. “His kids have . . . promised to bring a pizza for him; evidently that’s another favorite of his,” said Linda Broaddus, a spokeswoman for Humana Hospital Audubon in Louisville, Ky. Schroeder continues to gain strength and is in satisfactory condition, Broaddus said.
