COLOMBO, Sri Lanka —
A Tamil guerrilla leader and 13 comrades were killed in an attack by security forces on Sri Lanka’s strongest rebel group, National Security Minister Lalith Athulathmudali said Thursday.
He identified him as a man named Pandithan and said the security forces recovered “an incredible amount of weapons” from the arsenal at Atchuvely in northern Jaffna district. Athulathmudali said 44 guerrillas were captured Wednesday in the biggest attack so far on an arsenal of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
