Officials of college football bowl games opposed the idea of a major-college national championship playoff and said there was little sentiment for it among the schools . The action came at the NCAA convention at Nashville, Tenn.

Jim Brock, executive vice president of the Cotton Bowl and chairman of what he called the “Bowl Group,” said the more than 40 representatives from 17 postseason games--only the Aloha Bowl was missing--”unanimously opposed any playoff, championship game, anything--no matter who brings it up.”

Names on the News Robert Irsay, owner of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts franchise, agreed in Chicago to turn over four Super Bowl tickets to a suburban center for the handicapped that had accused him of reneging on a promise to winners of a fund-raising raffle.
