Automobile sales in the European Economic Community fell 2.3% to 6.69 million vehicles in the first nine months of 1984, the trade bloc’s Motor Industry Liaison Committee said.

Hanns Glatz, general secretary of the committee, blamed the declines on “restrictive” Common Market Policies, strikes, impending emission control legislation and Japanese imports.

The organization predicted sales would fall 2% for the year and production would drop 5%.
