Plastic Stonehenge Rejected

The English Heritage Commission today rejected a proposal to build a plastic replica of Stonehenge, the prehistoric stone circle in southwest England, that would survive time, tourists and graffiti artists better than the original.

Instead, the panel said a road and existing parking lot adjacent to the 4,000-year-old landmark on wind-swept Salisbury Plain will be closed and a $7-million visitors’ center and parking lot will be constructed about a mile away, removing car and bus traffic farther from the monoliths.
