Five Bolivian generals have been relieved of duty for resisting an order from President Hernan Siles Zuazo dismissing the head of the army, the Defense Ministry said. The army chief, Gen. Jose Olvis Arias, who had been accused of plotting a coup, held out for 24 hours at his La Paz headquarters last month before accepting his dismissal. The generals relieved of duty include Hugo Gironda, chief of staff of the army command, two members of that command, a member of the military justice tribunal and Haroldo Pinto, commander of the 5th Division.
