Ancient Gold Seal Found
A gold seal believed to have been bestowed on a Chinese nobleman more than 1,700 years ago has been found at a construction site near Nanjing, the official Xinhua news agency said Friday.
The news agency quoted archeologists as saying they believed it to be the first such seal found in China. Seals are still widely used by the Chinese in documents, letters, paintings and calligraphy.
The nobleman apparently held a rank equivalent to a marquis in Europe. The title was awarded to successful generals between the Three Kingdoms period and the brief Jin Dynasty of AD 220-240, the report said.
