Chris Sandle scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, including a game-winning free throw as Arizona State upset Oregon State in double overtime, 83-82, at Corvallis, Ore., Saturday.

For the Beavers (15-2), who were led by A.C. Green’s 24 points, the loss snapped a 10-game win streak and a 17-game home-court string. It was the first loss in Pacific 10 play for the Beavers, ranked 8th and 10th in the national polls, as they fell to 5-1 and into a tie with USC for the conference lead.

ASU improved its record to 3-4 and 8-9.

Eric Holloway, Sun Devil forward, led all scorers with 20 points, 18 in the first half.

ASU guard Bobby Thompson hit a 20-foot jumper to make it 74-74 with 18 seconds left in the first extra period. Green had missed the first of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity with 27 seconds left.

Oregon State pulled within 82-80 with 1:25 left in the second overtime, and Steve Beck missed a free throw to create a Beaver opportunity to tie the game, but Oregon State lost the ball on the baseline and fouled Sandle with 32 seconds left. Sandle hit one free throw, and Darrin Houston of the Beavers sank a long-jumper as the clock ran out.

Washington 73, Washington State 56--Detlef Schrempf scored 22 points, and Clay Damon added 20 as the Huskies dealt the Cougars their fifth straight loss.

Washington State (10-7 and 2-5 in the conference) trailed, 34-28, at halftime, but Washington (13-5 and 5-2) put together an 18-5 burst to take control.

Arizona 73, Oregon 54--Arizona’s smaller front line, led by forward Eddie Smith, dominated every phase of the game at Eugene, Ore. Smith led both teams with 17 points as the Wildcats took charge of the boards and shot 68% to gain their first victory in the eight games they’ve played at McArthur Court.
