The World : War Criminal Sentenced
Nazi war criminal Helmut Krizons was sentenced in West Germany to three years’ imprisonment for complicity in the murder of at least 15,000 Poles, most of them Jews. His trial in the city of Bochum, which began in May, 1979, was the longest war crimes trial involving one person in West Germany. Krizons, 68, worked as an SS (elite guard) corporal in the ghetto of Lodz, Poland. He was found guilty of helping to deport at least 15,000 people, mainly sick women and children, to the Caelmno death camp, where they were gassed.
