President Reagan was nominated for the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize just hours before the deadline, it was reported today.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee’s secretary, Jacob Sverdrup, received Reagan’s nomination among three letters delivered to him hours before the deadline for nominations for the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize, the daily Verdens Gang said.

It said Reagan was nominated in hastily delivered letters that contained nominations by an American professor, a member of the Israeli parliament and a Norwegian university professor. Under the secret selection procedures of the Nobel Institute, committee members were prohibited from revealing details of nominations, which are accepted only from past winners, some academicians and parliamentarians. Sverdrup confirmed Reagan was nominated, however.
