The Communicating Arts Group of San Diego honored the San Diego Zoo as the top winner in its annual advertising awards program Friday night at the Hotel del Coronado. The zoo’s television commercials, produced by Phillips Ramsey Co., earned three Gold “San Di” trophies, three silver certificates, 10 awards of excellence and best of show in broadcast. The best of show in print advertising was won by San Diego Trust & Savings Bank. Winners were selected by judges from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. The advertising examples, some displayed on multi-image screens, will be exhibited Feb. 8 through 15 at the International Gallery, 643 G St., downtown.

A campaign to raise funds for San Diego County’s homeless will be launched at a news conference Monday at the downtown YMCA. County Supervisors Leon Williams and Susan Golding, San Diego Police Chief Bill Kolender and Evonne Schulze, assistant to Mayor Roger Hedgecock, are among the speakers scheduled to announce the formation of the Winter Assistance Resource Mobilization (W.A.R.M.) committee. The conference will be held at the downtown YMCA. The fund-raising effort is supported by the Salvation Army, the Mayor’s Task Force on the Homeless, the San Diego Community Foundation, the San Diego County Ecumenical Conference and the San Diego Community Council.
