A man who ran a day-care operation in San Rafael has been ordered to stand trial on a child molestation charge, but a single charge against his wife has been dismissed. A Marin County court commissioner ruled that John McDowell, 46, should stand trial on four felony molestation charges. McDowell and his wife, Margaret, 39, contended they are the victims of parents overreacting to fears of child sex crimes. A 5-year-old boy and two girls, aged 5 and 8, testified during the McDowells’ three-day preliminary hearing.
