Local News in Brief : Court Asks for Plan to Reunite Mother, Child

Share

A Ventura County Juvenile Court has appointed a psychologist to develop a plan that could eventually reunite Evelina Ester with her 3-year-old daughter. Ester gave up the child for adoption at birth only to change her mind 11 months later.

Judge Robert Bradley on Friday asked Kathryn Davis to interview both Ester and the child’s adoptive parents, said Ester’s attorney, Maxine Benmour. Davis was asked to propose a reunification procedure to the court by March 1.

Ester, who gave up her daughter, Cheryl, for adoption in 1981 in Simi Valley, sued the county after officials denied her request for the return of the child. The state Court of Appeal subsequently ordered a hearing in Juvenile Court to determine whether reunification would harm the child.
