USC All-American Hibbs Dies in Ojai at 77

Jesse Hibbs, an All-American tackle at USC in 1927, died Monday at St. Joseph’s Convalescent Hospital in Ojai after a long illness, his brother-in-law, Casey Shawhan, said. Hibbs was 77.

Hibbs was a television and motion picture director for many years. He directed several “Perry Mason” and “Ironside” episodes.

Hibbs played at USC from 1926-28 and was the team captain in his senior year when the Trojans went undefeated.

He is survived by his widow, Margaret, and his sister, Mrs. Helen Shawhan, of Burbank, as well as his brother-in-law. No funeral services are planned, according to Shawhan.
